Spread the word, even you're not a US citizen, it is important for everyone!! It easy to do and it can change everything. More info by clicking on the banner.

Website Blocking

The government can order service providers to block websites for infringing links posted by any users.

Risk of Jail for Ordinary Users

It becomes a felony with a potential 5 year sentence to stream a copyrighted work that would cost more than $2,500 to license, even if you are a totally noncommercial user, e.g. singing a pop song on Facebook.

Chaos for the Internet

Thousands of sites that are legal under the DMCA would face new legal threats. People trying to keep the internet more secure wouldn't be able to rely on the integrity of the DNS system.

Get on the phone and call your representative. Express your disapproval. Tell him or her exactly how you feel, and that you don't support this. Tell your friends to call their representatives, their Congressperson, and complain. Mention that you are a registered voter that takes your civic responsibility seriously and that you will use that vote to express your feelings about this.

“We support the bill’s stated goals — providing additional enforcement tools to combat foreign ‘rogue’ websites that are dedicated to copyright infringement or counterfeiting,” the Internet companies wrote in Tuesday’s letter. “Unfortunately, the bills as drafted would expose law-abiding U.S. Internet and technology companies to new uncertain liabilities, private rights of action and technology mandates that would require monitoring of websites.”  The chamber-led coalition in support of the bill includes Walmart, Eli Lilly & Co. and Netflix.

Google and other opponents of the legislation argue that restricting the Internet in the U.S. sets a bad international precedent and that the language defines infringing too broadly.

Imagine the internet without fanfiction.. holy crap.

Most of the stuff I do on the internet would be gone. :( No fanfiction, no roleplay, etc, and so forth.

It'd be so damn bleak and depressing.

Just imagine what it could do to iconing and graphics too! There'd be nothing left after a time.

Shit, I forgot about the graphics! Crap. It's ridiculous that we have to sign petitions like these. Fuck congress, half of them who wants this to pass don't even use the internet!

It's probably not anything to worry about. From what I understand if it passes the house Obama's already set to Veto the shit out of it.

But on the other hand. Even just thinking about it it pisses me off because as I said in my note on one of my petitions, I'm an artist (musician) starting out and the internet is a good place to put your music.Even if they're Covers. so the fact that they're trying to say "fuck you bitches you can't do this shit anymore" It really just gets my blood boiling :\ plus my friend and I are starting on a web comic. What the hell are we suppose to do with it now? if it did pass? :\ it'd be like the age of "Prohibition" and everyone would be doing everything they could to sneak around the internet to continue doing the things they love to do. I can see it now. Underground websites and all this other shit.

*deletes the last line she wrote in fear that congress is already peeping in on our conversations~!*

BY THE WAY. while I'm on the subject, of what people deserve. Apparently all these people out at the protests deserve to be sprayed with peperspray because it's no different than eating pepper. Or some shit <<

Yeah, no more singing covers of songs on youtube. What's next? You can't sing karaoke either? And Maker help you if you sing songs around your house, I'm sure that's just as bad too. Where does it stop? I mean seriously, where does one put the end to this junk? It just boggles my mind that this is even an issue. Then again some of those people in congress/the house are also people who don't believe LGTB people should receive equal pay so... I guess this shouldn't surprise me.

Dude, I don't hardly eat pepper to begin with. Not to mention I'm not sure why they think it's okay for the police to use pepper spray to begin with. Hasn't it already been banned from use in war? (A quick google says that yes, it's banned from use in war) I mean seriously what sort of message is that sending.

FORGET THAT! What happened to "The internet was made for porn~!"

And your right :\ I think this Megyn Kelly chich is just kind of on the border of "retardationville" and "about to be bitch slapped county"

:\ When drew told me about what had been said I'm like "WHAT... No really WHAT?" I wanted to punch her in the face so bad. but it's okay for media people to say shit like that. But if we stand up against them we're gonna get our asses lit into ;\

I love how there's suppose to be all this equality and shit, but there's none. It makes me rage so badly. and you know I'm not a rage-y person <<

And another quarter is probably in the pocket of the corporations. I seriously hope some of those men and women have children who give them a ton of grief about what they're trying to do. I really, really do.

It's a pretty horrendous idea and while I have faith that Obama will stamp a veto on that so fast if it hits his desk I'd rather this get shut down completely so that there's no chance of it popping up again if we end up with a new president next year.
