I finally got around to watching the first episode of KuroKami that I've had buffered.

It wasn't on my "to watch" list for Winter 2009 or even the potential watch list I don't think but it's going there now.

I didn't pay much attention to the blurb for it at the anime sites I did research for the series at but it didn't take long for me to recognize the series as I'd read a preview for the manga in the October edition of Yen Plus.

The storyline is totally changed from one pilot to the other but I actually prefer the changes. In the manga he seemed to me to be the typical shounen asshole type and I had problems sympathizing with him. Dropping his age, altering his personality a little, things like that make quite the difference.

The manga I don't like but I have a feeling KuroKami the animation? Could just become one of my favorites for this coming season.

The storyline starts off ordinarily enough. His father's never home as he works overseas, his mother died in an accident some time ago, and he's being taken care of by a family friend. (I suppose in the manga she's a childhood friend but I think the few year age gap might mean she's only a family friend now). His mother died after a strange encounter with a woman who looked identical to her and that's seemingly the entire premise of the story.

In the pilot episode alone you see at least two people die, both times I wasn't expecting it until it hit me... right before the news of their death happened.

If you're a fan of happy go lucky, I don't think this one's so much for you but if you're looking for action and a good plot? Then Kurokami might be just the bowl of anime ramen you're looking for. ^_~ I know Ii'm certainly hoping for big things from this series. Hope they don't prove me wrong!
